Chairman West Declares Election Integrity Top Priority
Austin, TX, Release: September 21, 2020. For Immediate Release
Chairman West stated, “We have to protect the integrity of the ballot for every voter in Texas by any and every means necessary. Voting is not only a right, it is a sacred duty for each and every citizen of this country. And nothing dishonors our country and our history more than a corrupt election.
I am committed to ending corruption at every level in politics, and especially corruption at the ballot box. The more we expand the time, place, and manner that people can vote, the more opportunity there is for corruption. That is why I support limiting both mail-in ballots and early voting as much as possible. I also oppose the extension of early voting through the decree of a single executive instead of through the legislative process.
All Republicans need to work together between now and Election Day to protect the fairness of our electoral process. To that end, I am committed to working with Dr. Steve Hotze, and all the members of the Republican Party of Texas.”
The Republican Party of Texas is engaged on all fronts to ensure a fair election. We’re ensuring that our election workers are manning all polling locations. And we’re looking into litigation to stop corrupt and illegal practices as well as legislation to prevent abuses of the process in the next legislative session. I am particularly concerned about Harris County.
Harris County Clerk Chris Hollins has consistently sought to abuse the electoral process by taking actions inconsistent with Texas Election Law. Those actions have injected uncertainty and confusion into the election process and constitute an abuse of authority and violate the rights of Texas citizens. The Republican Party of Texas will be working to stop blatant attempts by the Texas Democrats to circumvent Texas election law such illegal practices as 24-hour voting, drive-through voting, and unregulated mail-in ballot drop off locations.
Next session, Chairman West will work to provide the Secretary of State with additional, necessary tools to ensure the integrity of Texas elections.
